Youths from various organisations and entities took part in an activity organised by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, with the aim of bringing them closer to nature while strengthening their wellbeing.
The activity, entitled TerraMar and held at the Argotti Botanical Gardens, gave participating youths the opportunity to explore ways to actively participate in their communities and in other European countries. The activity was described to the young participants as a celebration of the connection between land and sea, further promoting environmental protection, sustainability and active youth participation.
The youths who took part were given the opportunity to learn, participate, and discover how they themselves can contribute to the greater protection of the environment and marine ecosystems.
Various organisations and entities working in the fields of environmental protection, marine conservation, sustainable mobility, youth participation, education and community development were able, through this activity, to share their experiences and work in these areas. Since environmental challenges and their solutions are not limited to Malta, the activity also received support from Eurodesk, an information network for youth.
The organisers said that, through this activity, they hope to encourage further positive action in favour of protecting nature, reducing waste, supporting sustainable transport, promoting volunteering and encouraging more youths to become actively involved in their communities in order to drive positive change in these areas.
During a visit to the activity, the Minister for Youth, Wellbeing and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme, Omar Farrugia, met with a number of youths from different organisations and entities and expressed his appreciation for the work they carry out in support of environmental initiatives. He also listened to the experiences of the youths present and learned more about the work they undertake within the various organisations participating in the activity.
“TerraMar is one of the many initiatives taking place throughout this month as part of the Youth Wellbeing Festival, where we are raising awareness among our children and youths about sustainability and the environment, bringing together the environment and the sea to promote greater awareness, pari passu, alongside the wellbeing of our children and youths. We look forward to continuing to strengthen this participation," stated Minister Farrugia.
The Head of the Youth Empowerment Unit, Maria Borg, said that during TerraMar, youths had the opportunity to meet various organisations active in Malta in order to discover the work they carry out in favour of the environment and the sea. Borg also explained that the aim is to bring youths closer to these opportunities so that they become aware of the different opportunities available, because the environment and the sea also contribute to their wellbeing.
